Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Tuesday

The Situation

A weak front should clear the North Island early this afternoon, while a ridge of high pressure covers the remainder of Aotearoa/New Zealand. Another front moves onto southern New Zealand overnight tonight, then slowly moves up the South Island tomorrow.

Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow

Northland to Waitomo, Taupo, also Coromandel and Bay of Plenty

Mostly fine. Few showers in Northland today, and isolated showers about the east coast tonight and tomorrow morning.

Gisborne to Wairarapa

Isolated showers about from Wairoa northwards clearing this afternoon then mostly fine.

Taranaki, Taihape to Wellington, also Nelson and Marlborough

Cloud increasing tonight. Isolated showers about Horowhenua Kapiti Coast and Tararua Range tomorrow, and a few late showers about Kaikoura Coast.

Canterbury, Otago and mainland Southland

Mainly fine. Rain developing in Southland tonight, spreading to Canterbury tomorrow, with snow lowering to 400 metres, possibly heavy, clearing in Southland and Otago later.

Buller, Westland

Cloudy periods and isolated showers, turning to rain in Westland early tomorrow and some heavy about the ranges.

Fiordland, Stewart Island

Rain or showers, some heavy, clearing tomorrow morning.

Chatham Islands

Fine spells.

And the outlook for the following three days...

Saturday

North Island: Fine in the east. Partly cloudy with isolated showers elsewhere. South Island: Rain, possibly heavy, in the west and south, spreading to Canterbury later. Mainly fine in Nelson and Marlborough.

Sunday

North Island: Partly cloudy. Isolated showers in the east and north. South Island: Periods of rain in the west, possibly heavy. Scattered rain or showers elsewhere, easing.

Monday

North Island: Partly cloudy. Isolated showers in the east and north. South Island: Periods of rain in the west, easing. Partly cloudy with a few showers elsewhere, but mainly fine in the north.

And at the Chathams

Fine with northerlies on Saturday, then partly cloudy on Sunday with the chance of a shower and light winds. Partly cloudy on Monday, with the odd shower as southerlies develop.
