Luxon not making any promises for ACT despite poll results

From Morning Report, 7:45 am on 11 May 2022

National party leader Christopher Luxon says it's too early to say whether National would strike a coalition deal with ACT.

Yesterday Luxon said Deputy Leader Nicola WIllis will be finance Minister if the party wins the election.

Recent polling shows National would need to partner with at least ACT to get into power, and ACT leader David Seymour is eyeing up the finance role.

Luxon says any talk of coalition arrangements is too premature and hypothetical, but he won't rule in or rule out David Seymour as finance minister.

Luxon would also not be drawn in on whether the National Party would continue the deal with ACT, where the candidate in Epsom does not campaign for the electorate vote.

"We are not going to have the conversation, and it's just too far away, too hypothetical, way too premature. I'm focused on the National Party making sure we do our job well."
