Q 1 What would you be doing in basketball if you were "riding the rimu"?
A Sitting on the bench i.e. you're not on the court. Another, perhaps more well known, form of this particular colloquial phrase is "riding the pine".
Q 2 Which New Zealand district cricket side won the Hawke Cup for the first time earlier this year, defeating Canterbury Country?
A Buller, the country's smallest provincial side. Unfortunately they went on to lose the trophy in their first defence to North Otago, who then promptly lost it to Hawke's Bay. For complete disclosure, my younger brother captained the Buller side. I am, obviously, very proud.
Q 3 What is former All Black Dan Carter's star sign?
A Pisces. Indeed, Carter could be slippery like a fish on the field. According to famousbirthdays.com, his March 5 birth date means he "impresses with his psychic-like intuition". And he can take on the "adaptable, changeable and fluid qualities of free-flowing water".
Here's an example:

Q 6 Australian rugby league coach, and great, Mal Meninga has a reputation for enjoying which particular meat?
A Chicken. Interestingly, before he became a league professional Meninga was a police officer. It is not where he got his second, lesser well known nickname, Chicken George. That came because, apparently, if given the choice, he would eat chicken for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Q 7 How tall is NZ-born and bred NBA basketball player Stephen Adams?
A 2.13m. Adams, who plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder, is quite the beast on the court, earning a reputation as someone who enjoys a bit of contact. Here's a short highlight reel of the big fella in action:
Q 8 From which West Coast town does former Silver Fern and NZ volleyball representative Anna Harrison hail?
A Karamea. Harrison's (nee Scarlett) family farmed near the small township which is a short distance from one end of the Heaphy track.
Q 9 Where would I be on the golf course if I was on the "apron".
A OK, so a lame joke or two in there. You would be around the edge of the green. This grass is typically cut shorter than the fairway but not as short as the green.
Q 10 The New Zealand Women's cricket side are known as the what?
A The White Ferns. The women's side made it to the semi-finals of this year's Twenty 20 World Cup in India before falling victim to eventual winners, the West Indies. It didn't, however, stop captain and batting supremo Suzie Bates being chosen by cricketing bible Wisden as its women's player of the year.
