A celebration of song

From Pick and Mix

Joni Mitchell wrote her famous song 'Woodstock' as she watched televised reports of the festival from her hotel in New York. Ironically Mitchell made her name with a song about a festival she wasn't singing at because her manager thought it would be better for her career to appear on the The Dick Cavett Show.

The King’s Singers have made a fine art of arranging songs to suit their close vocal harmonies including standards from the great American songbook.

Nick Cave shows his lyrical and emotional side in a love song many others have copied - but none tops the original.

Sisters Shelby Lynne & Allison Moorer have a duets album where they sing about the tragedy that engulfed them as teenagers when they lost both parents, at their father's hands.

Hugo Diaz and his trio play the Carlos Gardel tango celebrated in the film 'Scent of a Woman'.

British ensemble Voces8 use music from pop and film arranged for their blended vocal sound. Their take on 'Pyramid Song' by Radiohead is a special treat.

Sweet the Bleep is a new instrumental album from Wellington guitarist Chris Prowse
