Formed just a few years ago in 2019, Pacific Connection is already well on the way to big things.
Last year, in their first ever competition as a chorus, the Porirua-based choir won the National Barbershop Harmony competition. And in a couple of months they're heading off to the States to represent Aotearoa New Zealand at the Barbershop Harmony Society Contest & Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.
Henrietta Hunkin-Tagaloa is founder of the choir. She talks with Bryan Crump about how the choir was formed, preparing for the competition and putting their unique spin on barbershop singing.
Henrietta says that although it's a non-Pacific art form, the choir has a lot to offer the barbershop craft with their Pacific voices and Pacific flavour:
"That's what we're most proud about."
You can hear Pacific Connection Choir at Sacred Heart College, Lower Hutt, on Saturday 17 June, 6.30pm.
