Conductor Tony Ryan and the Resonance Ensemble are celebrating the turn of the new year - Aotearoa style - with a cluster of Kiwi compositions this Matariki weekend.
Ryan said the initial task of choosing which composers was "daunting", due to the hundreds in the country, but the line-up fell into place faster and more easily than expected.
Sunday's matinee concert, at The Piano in Christchurch, will feature seven composers and 10 works, including a traditional waiata that Ryan arranged specifically for the event.
The Cantabrian conductor told Three to Seven's Bryan Crump that commissioning works may be on the card for future Matariki concerts.
"If this concert works out as successfully as it's shaping up to be, we might do this every year."
