It's an amateur music club, but there are plenty of professional connections in Christchurch's Music Alive club which celebrates its half century later this month.
Founded in 1974 by Margaret Purdie, Music Alive (formerly known as the Christchurch Clef Music Club) has been providing regular performance opportunities for singers and instrumentalists in a supportive environment for 50 years.
Programme Convener Nikki Wells told RNZ Concert host Bryan Crump that the club initially started out to give student musicians performance opportunities in front of a sympathetic audience, and also to provide more experienced musicians with a platform to try out larger works before a public or radio performance.
