The French Polynesian president, Oscar Temaru, has arrived in Paris for his first visit following his election last month.
Mr Temaru says he wants to reassure the business sector that his government will pursue a transformation of the economy prior to seeking self-determination.
He says he is favourable to pursuing the construction of a new hospital for Tahiti and he has approved the purchase of a fifth Airbus for Air Tahiti Nui.
He also wants to see a continuation of the development of fishing.
But, Mr Temaru has cancelled plans to build a new 60 kilometre long rapid expressway for Papeete which would have meant the displacement of a thousand families.
And, he says he wants to institute a new type of government without any signs of corruption.
Mr Temaru will meet the minister for overseas territories, Brigitte Girardin on Friday.
