A criminal court in French Polynesia has convicted the leader of the Rautahi Party, Jean-Christophe Bouissou, for unduly favouring a relative in a social housing allocation in 2002.
The court found that he made available an apartment to his half-brother.
He has also been fined nearly 2,000 US dollars for his role at the time he was the housing minister and the head of the board of the housing agency.
According to the news agency Tahitipresse, Mr Bouissou's lawyers say he did no wrong and the sentence should be quashed.
The former minister says he accepts the verdict but adds that under his leadership more than 6,000 housing units were built.
