Tonga's Crown Prince made High Commissioner in Canberra

The Crown Prince of Tonga Tupouto'a Lavaka is today due to start his job as Tonga's first High Commissioner to Australia.

The Crown Prince has served in different roles, including as prime minister, foreign minister, defence minister and agriculture minister.

His appointment was formally approved on July the 25th on the recommendation of Cabinet.

Radio Tonga says he travelled to Canberra via China where he attended the opening of the Olympics in Beijing.
