Fiji court drops charges against NZ man Khan

3:48 pm on 12 November 2008

The Fiji high court has struck out all charges against New Zealand buinessman Ballu Khan who had been accused of plotting to kill the interim prime minister.

Mr Khan and ten others were charged with conspiracy to kill Commodore Frank Bainimarama, and other cabinet members last year.

Mr Khan was hospitalised after the beating he received last November when he was arrested by the police and military.

His lawyer, Peter Williams QC, says Mr Khan has been granted a permanent stay on the basis he was unlawfully dealt with by the authorities following his arrest.

Mr Khan says he hopes to return to New Zealand as soon as possible.
