7:43 pm on 9 February 2012

The district court in Samoa has heard evidence in the trial of village chief and Samoa Observer's editor in chief, Savea Sano Malifa, who is facing one count of wilful damage.

The police have five witnesses, including the complainant, an elderly village orator of Afega village where the accused holds the chiefly title of Savea.

The court has heard the complainant's small hut or faleo'o was allegedly pulled down by the accused using his pickup truck.

However Savea has also filed a complaint, claiming the orator, Fata Pemila, had unlawfully built a house on his family land.
