Three million litres of water has been carted to various homes in Fiji's Western Division in the past two months to offset the effects of a dry spell.
The Acting Commissioner Western, Luke Moroivalu says Yasawa, Malola and Vatulele are the areas most affected and authorities are carting water to those areas on a daily basis.
He says a large barge carrying supplies left for some outer islands yesterday.
Mr Moroivalu says the prolonged dry spell is now taking its toll on farmers, and he has requested that the agriculture ministry carry out an assessment on the crops and livestock.
Meanwhile, according to the Rural and Maritime ministry, villages in the Northern and Central divisions have also made requests for water.
