Niue is reviewing its response for public health emergencies in case ebola reaches its shores.
The Niue Health Department says while the risk of ebola entering the the country is low, it is taking precautionary steps.
It says the experience of the swine flu pandemic in 2009 has enabled the department to adapt to the ebola threat.
It's calling for help from border authorities in New Zealand which is the stepping off point to Niue.
Niue's health authorities say travellers to the island will be monitored for the disease which has killed more than four-and a--half-thousand people in western Africa.
