Sport: American Samoa Boxing Association to hold new elections

The International Boxing Association says it will not recognise the American Samoa Boxing Association meeting and election of officers held earlier this year.

In February, the local boxing association carried out its Annual General Meeting and Annual Board of Directors meeting and elections.

However, AIBA executive director Ho Kim said this was a violation of the Statutes and Bylaws of AIBA, which was not informed of the date and place of such meeting and elections.

AIBA says it did not approve the list of candidates seeking a position within the local association's executive board.

In a letter late last month, Kim informed local boxing association president Mapu Jamias that the result of the February meeting is not recognized by AIBA and new elections need to be reorganised before August the seventh.

Jamias says the association was never required in the past to send a list of candidates and this is a new change by AIBA and American Samoa is complying with it.
