China has confirmed its support for the rebuild of a primary school on Rarotonga in the Cook Islands.
China's Ambassador to the Cook Islands Wang Lutong made the pledge for the construction of a new modern learning environment for Apii Nikao School this week.
The commitment ceremony at the school site was a chance for the two countries to reiterate a deepening 18 year old relationship.
The US$6.5 million rebuild comes nearly two years after an arson which destroyed nearby Avatea School, forcing students to combine with Nikao.
China's support comes in the same week New Zealand promised US$7.6 million to upgrade the country's main secondary school, Tereora College
