The PNG government is enforcing a curfew at two universities following a violent attack in Lae and ongoing student protests.
Students and teachers said the mood at the University of Papua New Guinea campus in Port Moresby had been quiet with a heavy police presence.
Between 7pm and 6am no one would be allowed to enter or to leave the campus.
The curfew followed an attack at the University of Technology in Lae at the weekend when a group brandishing bush knives left one student dead and buildings burnt.
The NCD Metropolitan police commander, Ben Turi, said there would be no tolerance for any more protests.
"We don't want any more burning and no more state properties destroyed by arsonists or criminal elements inside the campus. The curfew is the protection of our properties and the lives of people living in the university. There won't be any more demonstration. We've had enough of all this demonstration by any groups," he said.
