The High Court in Lautoka in Fiji is today expected to resume the mitigation before sentencing for nine men found guilty of raping a man being held in police custoy, Vilikesa Soko.
The eight policemen and a soldier were found guilty at the beginning of this month in relation to incidents that occurred more than two years ago.
The convicted men, who have been suspended on full pay since February, had raped and sexually assaulted Mr Soko and assaulted another man Senijeli Biola.
Mr Soko had been arrested after a robbery.
He later died in Lautoka Hospital of the injuries he sustained.
On Thursday last week the lawyer for the convicted men, Iqbal Khan, sought a stay application to delay the sentencing, but judge Justice Aruna Aluthge instead ordered Mr Khan to pay a penalty, saying the application amounted to an intention to obstruct justice.
FBC News reports that the defence then asked for more time to file mitigation submissions for the nine convicted men.
This is due to be heard today with sentencing tomorrow.
