American Samoa govt gives income tax payers a break

American Samoa's Treasurer, Ueligitone Tonumaipeam, has given people who owe income tax a break.

He has approved an amnesty program for everyone with an outstanding income tax liability.

A statement from the Treasurer said the purpose of the amnesty was to enable staff to improve tax collection while giving an incentive to tax payers who would have had until the end of 2017 to meet their obligations.

The amnesty means that outstanding late penalties and interest on outstanding tax bills are being waived until the end of this year.
