The police in Solomon Islands say they have restored order in West Honiara where a house was burnt down following clashes between groups of men armed with home-made weapons and who were throwing stones.
Firemen attempting to attend to the house which was set on fire also had stones thrown at them, prompting a call for police reinforcements who said they brought the situation under control.
There have been no reported injuries resulting from the incident.
It is understood the dispute centres on the serving of eviction notices to squatters in an area that the landowners have been trying to develop for more than ten years.
Police say they will maintain increased security and say they are working with both parties to resolve the issue.
They have asked the public to remain calm and say anyone found carrying any weapons, inciting violence, or taking the law into their own hands will be dealt with swiftly.
