The Cook Islands coroner has been asked to hold an inquest into the disappearance of a Venezuelan woman in Cook Islands waters over year ago.
The 41-year-old was travelling on the yacht Zangano, about 40 nautical miles off the Rarotonga coast when she went missing in August 2016
The request to the coroner has been made by retired Australian detective Rod Henderson who said the Cook Islands police investigations appear to have gone nowhere.
Our correspondent said police had maintained a wall of silence around the disappearance despite the efforts of Mr Henderson to establish what it has done to uncover the mystery.
He said the victim's family had every right to know the full facts of the case and the woman shouldn't be forgotten about.
