Elections authorities in the Cook Islands said a call to update the electoral roll does not indicate an early general election.
The Cook Islands News reports the Electoral Office has been advising it is updating the roll in each constituency amid suggestions of a snap election in May.
Chief electoral officer Taggy Tangimetua said they are obliged under the law to call for an update of the rolls in March every year.
"The electoral rolls are updated every year and published," she said.
"The last roll was updated in March 2017 and some amendments like change of constituency and other details were done to it before it was published in December last year."
Ms Tangimetua said legally, they need to hold the upcoming general elections by 9 October this year.
She said they haven't yet been advised of the exact date but added they were tentatively looking at September elections.
