The decision, which takes effect on 31 May, will result in the discontinuation of United's code-share partnership with Cape Air and the cancellation of the latter's Rota-Guam route.

United Airlines said the decision to replace Cape Air's service was due to customer feedback.

Cape Air's service between the CNMI and Guam has been plagued with flight delays due to maintenance problems of its ATR-42 aircraft, which can only seat a maximum of 50 passengers.

The downside of United Airlines' decision to takeover Cape Air's route is the Saipan-Guam service is only once a day compared to Cape Air's four-times-a-day schedule.
