Papua New Guinea Kumuls winger Garry Lo has been released by the Castleford Tigers for personal reasons.
The UK Super League club said it had accepted a request from Lo's representative to end his contract to allow him to focus on a personal matter.
The 24-year-old, who joined the club from the Sheffield Eagles in September, had not been selected for the team since voluntarily assisting the police with an enquiry two weeks ago.
The chair of the PNG Rugby Football (PNGRFL) League chair Sandis Tsaka said the national body had made enquiries with England's Rugby League Federation and Castleford about Lo's departure, as it was concerned about implications for PNG players wanting to play in the UK.
"We are informed that Gary has returned to PNG but have not been made aware of the circumstances surrounding his departure from England," Tsaka said.
Lo would not be participating in any PNGRFL sanctioned competitions or programmes until the circumstances surrounding his departure from England were explained, he said.
