A Cook Islands government official says the roads in Rarotonga are long past their use by date and resealing is vital.
A manager with Infrastructure Cook Islands, Vaipo Mataora, told the Cook Islands News that many of the roads on the island had not been resealed in the past 25 years and that's the reason there are so many potholes.
Mr Mataora said the surface of the road is getting worse because of the increasing number of vehicles and poor drainage.
He sid the agency has funding for a road improvement/maintenance programme, but not for resealing.
