Air Kiribati has bought two new jet airliners, as well as the purchase rights for two more.
The aerospace company Embraer said the four E-Jet E2s are collectively valued at $US243 million.
The jets are scheduled for delivery in 2019 and will enable the national airline to fly longer domestic and international routes.
Transport Minister Willie Tokataake said the new planes will take Kiribati to its next phase of growth.
