Fiji's prime minister Frank Bainimarama says his Australian counterpart's visit this week is an historic step up in relations between the two countries.
Scott Morrison is due to arrive in Fiji on Thursday after visiting Vanuatu.
Mr Bainimarama tweeted he was looking forward to the visit which he described as an historic step in the countries' diplomatic relationship.
It was a pleasure meeting Australian Prime Minister @ScottMorrisonMP last October in Sydney, and I look forward to seeing him again here in Fiji this week. He said it is the first bilateral visit by an Australian prime minister.
Former prime minister John Howard was the last Australian prime minister in Fiji in 2006 for a meeting of the Pacific Islands Forum.
