Police in American Samoa have finally issued a public alert of an inmate, serving 30-year prison term, who had escaped from the Territorial Correctional Facility five days ago.
The local news media have reported last week that Thomas Siaumau had escaped from the only adult jail in the territory but the Police Commissioner, Le'i Sonny Thompson didn't make a public statement until today.
There's been public criticism of police not alerting the public, especially since Siaumau was convicted this year of shooting at police cars two years ago and given a 30-year jail term.
Commission Thompson has warned the public not to approach Siaumau if he is seen, but to contact police right away.
