Authorities in New Caledonia say a newly-formed cyclone is moving well to the west of the territory.
Cyclone Gretel, a category one, was named over the Coral Sea early this morning.
Strong winds and heavy rain are forecast for most of New Caledonia today, but the cyclone is not expected to make landfall at any point.
Some ferry services in the Loyalty Islands have been cancelled, and some minor flooding has been reported in the north.
The domestic airline Air Caledonie has cancelled some of their flights scheduled for later today and tomorrow.
The territory is going to the first round of municipal elections today, but so far, there are no reports of polling stations being affected.
