Another sharp rise in French Polynesia Covid-19 cases

French Polynesia has recorded another 35 cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of infections in latest outbreak of the coronavirus to 287.

The sharp rise in confirmed cases last week prompted the authorities to raise the alert level on Friday.

Several schools in Tahiti remain closed this week.

In mid-July French Polynesia abolished mandatory quarantine requirements for international arrivals to boost tourism.

However, the United States now discourages travel to Tahiti.

In the first wave from March to June, French Polynesia registered 62 cases.
