A former Fiji soldier has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his four-month-old daughter.
The 26-year-old was convicted of throwing a concrete block through the window that hit the baby's forehead in October last year.
During the trial earlier this month, the High Court in Suva was told Tevita Kunawave was drunk at the time of the incident.
The State said on the day of the tragedy, Kunawave arrived home intoxicated and had an argument with the child's mother.
The court heard the woman had shut the door when Kunawave picked the concrete block and threw it through the window, hitting the child.
She was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Justice Daniel Goundar concurred with the three trial assessors who found Tevita Kunawave guilty of murder yesterday (Thursday).
Today (Friday), Kunawave was told he is expected to serve 14 years behind bars before a release may be considered.
