Seven people in French Polynesia, including a boxing champion, will face the court in May for their suspected roles in trafficking methamphetamine since 2019.
They were detained last week following a raid in Mahina and after four days of questioning, they have been remanded until their trial.
An investigation implicating the seven was triggered by the discovery of 74 grams of the drug smuggled to Tahiti by a hip hop dancer returning from the United States in 2019.
It led to the arrest of Manava Akau, the former leader of the hip hop group, All In One.
Also facing court is the 2020 French super heavy weight amateur boxing champion Ariitea Putoa, dubbed the Mike Tyson of Polynesia.
The seven are accused of having jointly imported just under two kilogrammes of methamphetamine in 2019 and then formed a local drug distribution ring.
According to the authorities, there are more than 10,000 people in the territory regularly consuming the drug.
