Health officials in the Cook Islands are anticipating a spike in covid-19 cases.
There have been are 878 active cases of Covid-19 including 20 in Aitutaki and still no hospitalisations related to the virus.
Health Secretary Bob Williams said although the workforce is stretched, they are prepared to handle increased case numbers, "we know that we are hitting our peak, over the last week it's been hitting just over a 100. We expect the end of April for cases to start climbing."
Williams said it will be about May by the time the Cook Islands reaches the tail end of Covid-19.
Opening up
A number of smaller islands within the Cooks have agreed to open their borders for travel from as soon as next week.
The Ministry of Health will be sending a team to the outer islands, the Pa Enua, to prepare them for new arrivals.
Williams said it's important all the Cook Islands to open up to visitors and inter-island travel.
"So we have a team going over to Atiu next week to prepare the island so the same regime will be done to Atiu as well as also the three islands over the coming weeks," he said.
