The Tahitians are now chasing Australia, who remains at second spot behind New Caledonia.
Tahiti has 33 gold medals, compared to Australia's 37.
Samoa has 28 at fourth spot and Fiji remains at fifth with 13 gold medals to their name.
With athletics featuring the 200 metres on Wednesday and Thursday, Australia is expected to win two more gold medals from the finals.
New Caledonia will feature in both football finals, while Papua New Guinea is in the running to win medals in touch rugby.
As competition winds down from today, it is expected that New Caledonia will have consolidated their lead by Thursday, returning home on Monday with another Games' title under their belt.
Niue and Tokelau are the only two nations who have not only any medals in Honiara so far.
