Two Fijian internationals have moved to Auckland in search of opportunities to develop their football skills and talents.

Thomas Dunn and Sterling Vasconcellos have joined the Eastern Suburbs AFC in Auckland.

Eastern Suburbs AFC Men's Premier team competes at the highest level of domestic football in New Zealand, playing in the National League Regional Competition (NRFL).

This competition sees the team compete in the Northern League from April to September, competing against the top clubs in the region for one of four spaces in the National League Championship

The team also competes in the New Zealand Football Chatham Cup Competition.

Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) said that the duo has secured semi-professional contracts with the NRFL Premiership side.

Fiji FA national team manager Kartik Reddy said he was happy for the players, adding that their success would open opportunities for others to follow.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for both Thomas and Sterling to grow their careers," Reddy said.

"We are proud to see them take this step and will continue to support them in any way we can. We hope to see more Fijian players getting opportunities abroad.

"Thomas and Sterling's move is just the beginning," he added.

Reddy expressed gratitude to the Fiji FA Board for facilitating the move.

"Fiji FA has supported the players in terms of arranging logistics to ensure their smooth settlement in New Zealand.

He also thanked Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel, chief executive Mohammed Yusuf, and district officials for their support.

Dunn has been a standout midfielder for his local Navua FC district side and the Fiji national team.

Reddy said Dunn has been a consistent performer at both domestic and international levels and trialed with Sydney FC in Australia earlier this year.

Vasconcellos, 19, has represented Fiji at various levels, including the Fiji Under-20 team at the 2023 FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

Both players are also key members in the Fijian national team.

The duo is expected to play for Fiji at the World Cup qualifier semi-final against New Zealand in Wellington on 18 March.

Reddy said the Eastern Suburbs AFC has a strong reputation for developing players, with links to Auckland City FC and contributions to A-League clubs.

"Their structured approach provides young players with opportunities to grow and take the next step in their careers," he said.
