Simon Pentanu has been speaker of the autonomous parliament in the Papua New Guinea region of Bougainville for the past three years.
He was in the New Zealand capital, Wellington, last week with other Pacific speakers and parliamentary staff for a conference and while here he caught up with RNZ Pacific.
The Speaker in the Bougainville parliament is appointed, rather than elected, and Mr Pentanu came to this job from parliamentary administration.
Don Wiseman asked him how well this works.
