Vanuatu's National Disaster Management Office says it is unclear whether Ambae evacuees will be permitted to return to the island this month as planned.
The government ordered a compulsory evacuation of the roughly 10,000 people on Ambae three months ago, following the eruption of the Manaro Volcano.
Those displaced anticipate returning to their homes when the government's state of emergency is lifted at the end of the month.
But a spokesperson for the Disaster Office, Presley Tari told Mary Baines continued minor volcanic activity on the island means if residents return, they could be at risk.
