Traditional Fijian dance is helping Auckland students get a deeper understanding of Fijian culture.

Epsom Girls Grammar's first Fijian dance troupe was among hundreds of dancers taking part in this year's Polyfest in Auckland.

Schools from around the city take part in the event which is touted as the world's biggest Polynesian dance festival.

The girls' dance teacher Arunila Mirti told Sally Round it's not just those of Fijian heritage who've been keen to perform the meke and seasea at the show.
