An innovative biogas project in Tuvalu is helping to transform the lives of 40 local families who now have a year round supply of cooking fuel generated from pig manure and food scraps.
The biogas digesters are an initiative of the German Society for International Cooperation delivered with additional funding from the European Union.
The society's sustainable energy advisor, Ravinesh Nand, says the system not only helps families with their energy needs, its byproduct is an odourless fertiliser which is great for gardening.
Mr Nand told Koroi Hawkins the project was designed after a request from the government of Tuvalu.
