Samoa's Deputy Director General of Public Health says following the declaration of a measles epidemic, emergency procedures are underway as the government anticipates an escalation of cases.
Robert Thomsen says health staff are being redirected, with planning for an isolation unit to quarantine measles patients, if needed, and a push for the public to get their MMR vaccinations.
He told Jenny Meyer the topic of vaccinations is still a delicate one because of what happened last year in Samoa when two infants seeking vaccination died due to human error.
