WHO and UNICEF help with Fiji's vaccine shortage

From , 6:03 am on 28 November 2019

The World Health Organisation says a shortage of the measles vaccine in Fiji is due to an unnecessary increase in demand from the public.

The number of measles cases in Fiji has risen to 13 but restrictions have been placed on the limited supply of the vaccine.

The health ministry says it is prioritising the vaccine for those in affected areas, children aged between six months and three years, and those travelling overseas.

WHO official Jose Hagan says the WHO and the UN children's agency, UNICEF, are working to ensure the vaccine is available to the priority groups.
