Tongan tertiary students studying in Auckland relied on their sense of community through the unease of going through New Zealand's lockdown away from family.
The Auckland Institute of Studies has a partnership with the Tonga Institute of Higher Education, where school leavers can study half of their degree in New Zealand.
For some of these students, this is their first time to New Zealand as well as their first time living away from their families, but as Sela Jane Hopgood reports, they drew on their commonalities through the lockdown.
