Concerns in the Cooks over police shooting stray dogs

From , 6:00 am on 30 April 2022

Stray dogs in Rarotonga are being rounded up and shot by police because of dozens of complaints regarding attacks on people and livestock.

The Cook Islands police say they are struggling to manage the growing dog population with free roaming, unregistered dogs becoming a menace to locals and tourists alike.

The SPCA in Rarotonga is against the use of firearms, but are too under-resourced to provide a more humane alternative.
