The Pacific territory of 270,000 people has been in turmoil since May 13, when violence erupted over French plans to impose new voting rules that would give tens of thousands of non-indigenous residents voting rights. The unrest has left six people dead, including two police, and hundreds injured. (Photo by Theo Rouby / AFP)

Locals in New Caledonia are disappointed Paris has forgotten about the ongoing crisis in Nouméa.

It's been almost a month since destructive riots broke out in New Caledonia.

A security force of more than three-thousand from France have been stationed there with armoured vehicles also sent.

Journalist Coralie Cochin told RNZ Pacific's Caleb Fotheringham people are still living in fear and are feeling let down by the French government.
