The reputation of the lake, which is in the Nelson Lakes district, has seen the number of trampers visiting its shores grow over the last few years.
The lake is a day two walk on the Te Araroa track, and trampers have been seen washing dirty dishes in it, and leaving their toilet waste near the shore.
