In our NZ Biography slot today, we're looking at Jean Batten who's considered as New Zealand's greatest aviator. She was celebrated around the world for her heroic solo flights during the 1930s. Following her success she moved in and out of public view before dying in obscurity in Majorca, Spain, in 1982.
Dame Fiona Kidman recently published a novel based on Jean Batten's life which entailed doing deep historical research on the aviatrix, known as the Garbo of the Skies.
