New York artist presenting an all-day tidal performance

From Afternoons, 2:20 pm on 13 May 2022

New York based artist Sarah Cameron Sunde has returned to New Zealand to complete a performance which she first started working on just before the country went into lockdown in 2020.

It's an installation which will leave you cold, literally.   It involves the artist standing in the Manukau harbour, for a full tidal cycle.  Water engulfs her body, up to her chin and then recedes back down to her feet.

The 12 hour 23 minute performance will take place on Monday morning, will be filmed in real time, from multiple angles, and live streamed around the world. Locals are being asked to walk out and join her.

Sarah talks to Jesse about the meaning behind the performance.
