Today is National Fasting Day. Launched by a group called WELOVEFASTING, it's aimed at people who want to give fasting a go with the support of other health-conscious Kiwis.
Otago University Professor of Psychiatry & Addiction Medicine Doug Sellman believes there are misconceptions out there about what fasting is and the effects it can have.
He says, when done properly, it is a great way to lose weight and protect against things like diabetes, heart disease, and even cancers and Alzheimer's.
