Belinda Cordwell remains New Zealand's highest-ever ranked singles tennis player during the Open Era.

In December 1989, the same year she made the Australian Open semifinals, she reached the lofty heights of 17th in the world.

Wellington-born, Belinda had a globetrotting career, including stints in the USA and London, plus playing at the Seoul Olympic Games.

She retired in 1991 and now resides in the Wairarapa and provides health education to schools across the country
