Sir John Walker ends his Auckland Council race

Legendary Olympic runner Sir John Walker who became a champion of the right for all kids to learn how to swim has made his farewells to the Auckland Council as he battles Parkinson's Disease.

Sir John, and Westie greenie Penny Hulse are the only two councillors not running in this year's election.

Both made their valedictory speeches today after more than 20 years in the job.
